The creation of this website has been inspired by the migration of the de Wit family of Cape Town, South Africa to Auckland, New Zealand in 2002. This web site was constructed for the benefit of future generations of the de Wit family in New Zealand or else where in the world, such as Abigail, Noah and Jedidiah who were born in New Zealand.

tn SchiffeThe Progenitor of our line of descendants in South Africa is Christoffel de Wit.

It is against the following backdrop that Christoph Witt from Lenzen on the River Elbe in Germany arrives at the Cape of Good Hope. On 7 March 1713 he departs on the ship, De Engewormer under captain Cornelis de Roos on route to Batavia. The ship arrives at the Cape of Good Hope on 5 July 1713.

tn spellingThe descendants of Christoffel should all be using the spelling variation of "de Wit" with one "T".  There are several examples in estates and wills where "de Wit" had been changed to "de Witt" with two "T"s.
